Management Software, ArchiMedia, is an integrated product designed to
provide all the functionality needed to drive a CD or Optical library
system as a long term archive device.
By hiding
the low level robotics and performance issues from the user, the system
makes it easy to access the enormous storage capacity of jukeboxes in
a network environment. ArchMedia runs in both a UNIX and NT environment.
At the heart
of ArchiMedia is K-PAR's extended File System (XFS) software which allows
any number of discs to be logically combined to make a "media family"
which can then be treated as a single file system. The user can thus read/write
to this XFS volume rather than each individual disc. An XFS is only mounted
once thus saving considerable time during the startup process.
Each disc in the set is an integral unit and can therefore be removed
from the jukebox and read using a standalone drive if necessary. The key
to the Archmedia XFS is the WORM file system across both UNIX an NT operating
systems.
The complete
package includes all the required device drivers, graphical user interfaces,
installation script and user documentation. Users under a software maintenance
contract receive free upgrades.
Features
- On-line
cache of all directory and control information for fast lookup functions.
- Hard disk
caching of user data, before being flushed and on subsequent reads.
- Data stored
in the cache is always assumed to be the most up to date.
- Cache
data is stored using the host Operating System's native file system,
minimizing the risk of data loss.
- All robotics
and configuration details are hidden from the end-user.
- Graphical
User Interface to create, configure and administrate the ArchMedia file
system. Windows-based tools are provided for the system manager to install,
configure and monitor the system.
- Use of
the industry standard NFS interface allows the archive jukebox to be
used as a network resource.
